 |
Ahead of Defence Minister A.K. Antony’s visit to Manipur today, May 14, Army Chief Gen. J.J. Singh reviewed the state’s security situation with the Eastern Command top brass.
“The Army Chief reviewed the security situation in Manipur with senior officials of the Eastern Command. The Defence Minister will be there on May 14,” said an MoD source.
There has been tremendous pressure demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in Manipur, which gives sweeping powers to the Army.
Gen. Singh was also briefed about the overall security situation in the Northeast by the General Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Command, Lt Gen. K.S. Jamwal. Sources said the Army Chief also witnessed a war game exercise at Fort William, the Eastern Command Headquarters.
