Air Force man caught handing over documents to Pakistani national |
 |
A non-commissioned Indian Air Force (IAF) officer was nabbed while handing over classified documents to a Pakistani national in a commercial area in the heart of the national capital on April 16.
Operatives from the IAF’s intelligence wing and the Intelligence Bureau arrested the Air Force official, identified as Corporal T.K. Mahapatra, as he was allegedly handing over papers containing “sensitive information” to the Pakistani national.
The Pakistani national, Ali Abbas, is a staffer of the Pakistan High Commission here. Mahapatra, who was posted at the Jodhpur airbase in Rajasthan state, had been under surveillance by intelligence operatives for some time.
It is believed that the documents in Mahapatra’s possession contained information about IAF deployments in forward areas in Rajasthan which borders Pakistan.
Several IAF formations in the state have been in a state of alert since the two sides massed nearly a million troops along their border in December last year following a terror attack on India’s Parliament.
